Where Good Leaders Become Great

About High Center

For more than 30 years, The High Center has brought leaders together to learn, grow, and make better decisions—for their organizations, their teams, and the communities they serve.

What began as a commitment to strengthening family businesses has grown into a vibrant leadership community serving family businesses, privately held companies, and nonprofit organizations across Central Pennsylvania and beyond.

A Legacy Built on Leadership and Community

The High Center was founded in 1995 through the vision and generosity of S. Dale High and a group of local business leaders who understood something that remains true today: leading an organization brings challenges that are difficult to navigate alone. They created a place where family business leaders could speak candidly, learn from one another, access proven expertise, and prepare their organizations for the future.

Over the decades, that community grew—welcoming new generations of family business leaders as well as leaders of privately held companies navigating many of the same questions around growth, people, culture, strategy, succession, and legacy. In 2023, that commitment expanded again with the creation of The High Center for Nonprofits, bringing the Center’s peer-driven model and leadership resources to nonprofit executives and organizations strengthening communities throughout our Region.

Today, The High Center is a community where leaders can step outside the demands of  the day-to-day, gain perspective, challenge their thinking, and move forward with greater confidence.

Our Impact Goes Beyond One Leader

When a leader becomes stronger, the impact extends far beyond that individual.

  • Better leadership strengthens teams.
  • Stronger teams build healthier organizations.
  • Healthier organizations create better workplaces.
  • Sustainable organizations strengthen families and communities.

For family and privately held businesses, that can mean navigating succession, developing the next generation, strengthening culture, professionalizing operations, or building a business that can thrive for generations. For nonprofits, it can mean developing stronger boards and leadership teams, increasing organizational capacity, creating sustainable models, and ultimately delivering greater impact for the people and communities they serve. The organizations may be different, but the opportunity is shared: Build stronger leaders so they can build stronger organizations.
